I am venturing in a territory that is quite unusual for me today. Yes, what you see is a strapback and you know that headwear is one of my main passions but this one doesn’t come from my usual channels. As a matter of fact this limited edition cap that Elena S is wearing is a strapback by Grassroots California.
This brand creates headwear pieces and apparel with an incredible attention to detail, “providing environmentally friendly hats made with hemp, recycled soda cans and ballistic material” says the website. I wasn’t familiar with Grassroots but at the recent 4.20 Hemp Fest in Milan I stumbled into its booth and I couldn’t be more stoked.
I started to talk about headwear with Edu, the Jack of all trades that takes care of business of this brand here in Europe and after I told him that I have a streetwear blog he was kind enough to let me test a snapback from his brand.
Are you ready to enter a world where details make the difference? This is the limited edition strapback that Grassroots produced for The KushBrothers Seeds, a leading seed bank from Spain.
A calavera shield is in the center of the crown and the top of the visor is made of eco suede with a laser etched shiny pattern that contrasts with the matte suede. On the bottom you have a Chican inspired design of a cross embroidered with the utmost care. Give a look to the left side and you have Grassroots logo while on the right there is KushBrothers logo. Talking about the closure, it is made by a laser etched leather strap that ends up in a skull and bones buckle.
You think all this is too crazy? Wait until you see the lining: this satin not only is smooth but… it has an angle where it forms a secret pocket. Is anybody ready to distribute this brand for Italy? It’s about time!
