“I mean, how you think you’re free/when you act like property?” (KRS One)

A human that goes by the name of Patrick Martinez, had a wonderful idea: to take a picture of a neon sign that says: “Selling out is the new keeping it real” and put it on clothes. Upper Playground, the brand you love to love, put it under Fifty 24SF gallery label, so to speak. It’s all a big family, it doesn’t matter in which room Dad puts you. I don’t think that this looks good, this looks fantastic. The message is strong but funny at the same time. Think how many tattoists did little butterflys or dolphins on shoulders of secretary type chicks. Think about how many hardcore skaters end up working in skateshops and have to deal with the most silly Playstation teens requests. Think how many independent mcs end up signing to a major and once they signed and have to follow their manager guiding lines. It all revolves around money. To pay the bills is once again a major issue. I’m sure the tattoist would love to say “no” to certain requests, the skater would love to shred all day and to say f*ck you to spoiled brats and mcs would love to experiment and drop rhymes with their friends. We all grew up in this world, getting passionate with something. Since it’s our passion, we love it and even our jobs have to revolve around it. We sell our passion because we don’t want to deal with anything else. That’s why we’re keeping it real. It’s all a big lie you may think, but please think twice. Your passion gets you money, how real is that?! I truly wish everybody to pursue their dreams selling out the less possible way ever, but reality check is hard at times. Think what you want anyway, this Patrick Martinez tee shirt stimulates thoughts and basically this is every artist goal. The goal of a manufacturer of clothing is to sell and if he can, he will sell you two products instead of one: that’s why you have a hooded sweater and a tee shirt. These items sent in by our friends at Interjeans are a feast for the eyes but for the touch too. Thin tee shirt and soft plush hoodie is what we’re dealing with. Don’t think I’m sayin’ this just to sell, it’s all real…
